As the Remedial team continues to grow, we sat down with one of our latest strategic hires – General Manager John Mascitelli – to learn what his thoughts on the Building Remediation industry are.

Can you tell us a little about your career journey and what led you to join Remedial?

A: I’ve been fortunate to spend most of my career in the construction industry, working across both residential and commercial projects and remedial works. What attracted me to Remedial was its outstanding reputation for delivering quality projects for over 50 years. The business has a proven legacy, and I saw an opportunity to contribute my experience in leadership and strategy to help take it into its next chapter.

What excites you most about working in the remedial building space?

A: You’re often dealing with heritage buildings, complex engineering issues, or live environments where you need to balance technical excellence with minimal disruption.

Remedial building is both challenging and rewarding because no two projects are the same. That complexity is what excites me – it pushes us to innovate and showcase the specialist skills that set us apart.

What is your vision for the company over the next few years?

A: My vision is to strengthen our position as the most trusted remedial builder in the market.

That means continuing to do things right the first time, investing in our people, and embracing new technologies and processes to deliver even greater value for our clients. At the same time, I want us to preserve the legacy of excellence that has been built over decades.

Remedial has a reputation for unique in-house expertise. How do you plan to build on that?

A: Our specialist capability in heritage restoration and complex works is something very few firms can replicate. We want to build on that by investing in training, fostering knowledge sharing, and ensuring we stay ahead of industry trends. By continuing to refine and grow those skills, we can take on projects that others simply can’t deliver – and deliver them with confidence.

How would you describe your leadership style, and what can staff expect under your direction?

A: I’d describe my leadership style as collaborative and transparent. I believe in empowering people to do their best work, while also holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards. Staff can expect open communication, a focus on professional development, and a culture where everyone feels proud of the projects we deliver together.

What message would you like to share with clients and stakeholders?

A: Trust and credibility are earned over time, and Remedial has built both through decades of quality work. My message to our clients is simple: we’re committed to doing the job right the first time, delivering projects that stand the test of time, and being a partner you can rely on.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about the future of the industry?

A: The remedial sector is evolving rapidly, with new materials, methods, and sustainability standards reshaping how we work. I’m excited by the opportunity to help manage a company that is not just keeping up with these changes – but actively driving them.
